About the Panel:-
Brad Carr, Executive, Geopolitical Risk, NAB
Brad leads NAB’s analysis and engagement on geopolitics and emerging risk themes, and the delivery of solutions to support the resilience of customers and the wider Australian economy.
Brad previously led NAB’s Innovation and Digital Governance functions, and before that was Managing Director of Digital Finance at the Institute of International Finance (IIF) in Washington, leading programs on digital identity, data policy, cloud, AI and digital assets. Brad led the IIF’s advocacy on the Basel III capital reforms, as well as a global review of banks’ credit risk modelling practices. Brad also hosted the IIF’s ‘FRT’ and ‘NAB Digital Next’ podcasts.
His qualifications include a Bachelor of Economics from the University of WA, Masters in Science & Technology Commercialisation from the University of Adelaide, Certificate in Futurist Studies from the University of Houston, and he is a Graduate of the AICD. He is an Ambassador for the Singapore FinTech Festival and a Fellow of the Salzburg Global institute.

Ben Simpfendorfer, Partner, Oliver Wyman
Ben is a Partner at Oliver Wyman in Hong Kong and the APAC Head of the Oliver Wyman Forum, the firm’s global think tank for senior leaders. He works across multiple practices, including geopolitics, public policy, finance and risk management, and also leads the Asia-Middle East Corridor initiative. Ben is the former CEO of Silk Road Associates where he advised leading multinationals and Asian firms on their commercial strategies in Greater China, Southeast Asia and the Middle East. He also led development of the firm’s proprietary SRA Intelligence analytics solutions.
Ben has worked in Asia and the Middle East for over 25 years. He was previously chief China economist at RBS and senior China economist at JPMorgan in Hong Kong. He started his career in Beirut in the 1990s, later working as a Middle East & North Africa senior analyst for Dun & Bradstreet in London. He has briefed CEOs and boards worldwide.
Ben is a Mandarin and Arabic speaker, and author of The New Silk Road (2009) and The Rise of the New East (2014). He is a leading specialist on China’s Belt & Road Initiative (BRI) and was part of a Foreign Experts Committee advising the Chinese government on BRI’s implementation. He is a Member of the Hong Kong-Middle East Advisory Board for Hong Kong’s Financial Services Development Council, a former Board Member of the Pacific Basin Economic Council, and a former Exco Member and Governor of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong. He is also a regular commentator on Bloomberg & CNBC.
