About the Speakers:-
Charlie Burgess, CEO & CIO, Westbourne Asset Management
Charlie has over 20 years’ experience in capital markets. Charlie began his career in London with Citi in equity research before moving to the proprietary/funds management platform where he actively managed more than $200m. During his 10 years in London Charlie actively traded on behalf of the banks and clients’ capital across multiple assets classes and regions, culminating as Director and Head of the resources pod across equities and derivatives.
Post returning to Australian shores, Westbourne Asset Management was initiated under Charlie’s leadership. Westbourne has since managed a multi strategy fund within Aussie equities as well as multiple private unlisted investments. Westbourne Asset Management is currently the investment manager of a newly initiated fund, Westbourne Absolute Return Fund.
Bruce Wolpe, Senior Fellow, United States Studies Centre
Bruce Wolpe is a Senior Fellow (non-resident) at the United States Studies Centre. Bruce is a regular contributor on US politics across media platforms in Australia. In recent years, Bruce has worked with the Democrats in Congress during President Barack Obama’s first term, and on the staff of Prime Minister Julia Gillard. He has also served as the former PM’s chief to staff. From 1998 to 2009, Bruce was a senior executive at Fairfax Media in Sydney.
Bruce is author of Trump’s Australia, an examination of Donald Trump’s possible return to the presidency and the issues presented to Australia (Allen & Unwin, 2023), The Committee, a study of President Obama’s legislative agenda in Congress (University of Michigan Press, 2018, 2d Edition September 2021) and Lobbying Congress: How The System Works (Congressional Quarterly Books, 1990, 1996).
