April/May 2023 E-Newsletter

A Message from our Executive Director

RMA Australia reaches a member milestone

In April, for the first time since RMA Australia’s inception, we introduced zero fee membership for employees of our institutional members.

As a result, more risk management professionals in the Australian financial services community can access our monthly, sometimes bi-monthly webinars, attend face to face networking events and access quality risk resources.

Already in April/May, we have reached a new member milestone, welcoming an exceptional 2,600 new and previous members to our risk community.

Our most recent event was the first in a series of business credit risk events hosted by Korda Mentha in 2023/2024. The Agri Credit Risk webinar attracted 350+ registrations, scoring a 4.7 * rating via our webinar poll. If you missed the LIVE webinar, don’t forget you can view all our webinars in the member library on our website.

Some feedback from the webinar included:

“Informative session. Expert panel. Great facilitation.”

“Great range of topics and industry update with well qualified panel”

As we look forward to June, RMA Australia is pleased to bring you our first international webinar for 2023 on Emerging Financial Services Regulatory Compliance Considerations on Cybersecurity and AI – hosted by RMA HQ.

You can view and register for all of our webinars and events here

We look forward to seeing our member community continue growing and thriving in 2023 as we support your professional and networking needs via our webinars, events, forums and partner affiliations.

Title: Head of Model Risk Management, Commonwealth Bank & Chair of the RMA Australia Working Group on Models and Analytics Risk Forum

Which RMA Australia Forum are you involved in and what is your role? – Working Group on Models and Analytics Risk Forum / Chairperson

What is the purpose of the Forum? The Forum allows ADIs and Insurance firms to discuss policy settings, risk appetites and emerging risks.

How long have you been involved in RMA Australia’s Forums? 6 years

In your opinion, what are the biggest challenges facing Risk professionals in our industry in 2023?

Risk professionals face challenges in businesses who are increasing their reliance on automated processes, including the use of Artificial Intelligence /Machine Learning.

To automate safely, businesses will need to manage through multiple risk policies and governance processes, which may not currently complement each other.

Risk professionals will need to support the business through this, while complying with regulations and considering other emerging risks (Environmental, Social and Governance etc.). Risk management will be required to simplify its frameworks, ensure alignment across said framework and be clear with where the business can or cannot apply judgement.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW MEMBERS

This month we welcome the following new member Promontory to the RMA Australia Community.

We have a three-tiered Membership Structure that reflects the size and scale of the operations and the individual membership base within the institution. Those employees who want to participate in RMA Australia events then become Individual Members.

Institutional membership fees support the association’s running costs and subsidise the cost of individual membership for employees. A key benefit of Institutional Membership is an invitation to the annual Chief Risk Officers Forum.
