2026 June E-Newsletter
A Message from our Executive Director

Dear Members,
Welcome to the June E-News.
As we wrap up another busy month and the 2025/26 financial year, I’d like to thank everyone who has contributed to making this one of our most engaging event programs yet.
June featured three outstanding webinars, each exploring a different dimension of the evolving risk profession.
We began the month with a webinar hosted by our Emerging Career Risk Professionals (ECRP) Committee. The session explored what it takes to build a successful career in risk, the skills needed to thrive as a risk leader, and the key challenges facing organisations today. It was fantastic to see our emerging leaders sharing their insights alongside experienced practitioners. From our experts to our emerging experts, well done to everyone involved.
Our second webinar, hosted by Westpac, examined Human Rights and Modern Slavery Risks within the financial services sector. The discussion highlighted how today’s risk landscape extends well beyond traditional supply chain considerations, exploring the risks that can arise through complex value chains, customer financing activities, outsourced services, and broader organisational and workforce arrangements.
We finished the month with an informative webinar hosted by MinterEllison, Procedural, Not Protective: How Guardian and Shield Exposed the Limits of Gatekeeper Accountability. The webinar provided a detailed analysis of the First Guardian and Shield fund matter. Several key themes emerged that are highly relevant for risk professionals across all sectors: The importance of asking questions when something does not align; stepping back to assess the broader system for potential breakdowns in the value chain; escalating concerns promptly to senior management when uncertainty remains; and applying robust, independent scrutiny to external reviews and valuation processes.
Sincere thanks to Philip Marquet and Amelia O’Neill for their clear and thoughtful examination of the risk and regulatory considerations involved.
Thank you to our Events Committee, whose dedication and expertise have delivered an exceptional professional development program throughout 2025/26. Their efforts continue to ensure our members have access to timely, relevant and engaging discussions on the issues shaping our profession into 2026/27 and beyond.
This month, we continue our series highlighting some of our most engaged webinar attendees.
Hearing directly from our members is incredibly valuable, as it helps us understand what keeps members coming back to our webinars by asking:
- What they find most valuable in supporting their professional development and careers
- What topics and formats they would like to see in the future, ensuring our webinar program continues to deliver meaningful value and engagement
Thank you to Grant Welling from Tier 1 member Westpac for his ongoing attendance, active participation and thoughtful feedback. Read about Grant’s experience with RMA Australia webinars and why he continues to be part of our growing membership.
