2023 Year in Review

Reflecting On A Successful Year And Looking Ahead To 2024
Dear RMA Australia Members and Supporters,
As we approach the end of 2023, I am pleased to share the highlights and accomplishments in this, our final e-newsletter of the year. It has been a year of individual member growth and collaboration.
One of the most significant milestones we achieved in 2023 was the successful introduction of zero fees for individual members from our member institutions. This strategic move facilitated broader participation in our webinars and events and saw a staggering increase in individual memberships—from 1100 to an impressive 3300. A warm welcome to the 2200 new members who have joined us.
Throughout the year, we organised 17 webinars, and our 40 specialist forums were open to 550 eligible members. Our dedicated member library holds 70+ EXCLUSIVE member webinars, viewed over 1000 times. The pinnacle of our event calendar was the annual CRO Conference, hosted in collaboration with Deloitte, which attracted 80 attendees from 35 different institutions. The conference provided a platform for the most senior risk professionals in the Australian financial services industry to engage with thought-provoking presentations and discussions.
Some key takeaways from the CRO Conference, included:
- The presentation of the 2023 Mike Ritchie Award to Ian Crofts by RMA Australia Board Member Tara Cahill GAICD, MBA
- Futurist Michael McQueen addressing the Forum on “Making Sense of the World of the Future”
- Introductions and reports from RMA Australia Chair Chris Linde and RMA Australia Deputy Chair Caroline Brell
- Presentation from CEO of LeoLabs Australia, Terry van Haren
- A detailed session on “Advice and the Finfluencers”
- An address by Adam Gilmour of Gilmour Space Technologies
- A timely presentation on the Circular Economy (risks and rewards)
The depth and breadth of these sessions reinforce our commitment to providing valuable content and fostering an environment conducive to professional growth and development in risk management.
Looking ahead, we have an exciting calendar of webinars and events planned for 2024, set to kick off in February.
I extend heartfelt gratitude for your ongoing support on behalf of the RMA Management Committee, the RMA Australia team, and myself.
Together, we look forward to another year of collaboration and success, furthering our mission to support your professional development.
Kind regards,
Richard Gilbert
