2025 May E-Newsletter

A Message from our Executive Director

Dear Members,

Welcome to the May E-Newsletter.

We’re now well underway with our 2025 events and webinar program, and we’re seeing a noticeable increase in webinar attendance.

Our first Risk Fundamentals Series webinar of the year—Operational Risk—set new records with 650+ registrations, 300+ live attendees and more than 175 post-event views.

Coinciding with the Australian federal election, we hosted Trump 2.0 – The First 100 Days. This timely session examined the early stages of the new U.S. administration, with discussion spanning new tariffs, ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, a bear market, a weakening USD, and emerging global alliances.

In Australia, risk management around elections centres on protecting the integrity of the electoral process, combating cyber threats, misinformation, and foreign interference. The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) plays a key role in managing these risks alongside other agencies and stakeholders.  The AEC is a prime example of Operational Risk Management and resilience at work, with no prospect of delaying the project should an impasse arise.

We thank our expert panel My Bui (Economist, AMP), Charlie Burgess (CEO & CIO, Westbourne Asset Management), Mike Kalms (Partner, Defence and National Security, KordaMentha), Andrew Perry (Executive Director, Send Payments) and moderator Peter Deans (Notwithoutrisk Consulting) for delivering such a sharp and insightful analysis of Trump’s return to office.

Sessions such as these offer high-value content for Risk Managers. The depth of insight shared in Trump 2.0 – The First 100 Days would be difficult to match, even after reading hundreds of pages of financial news. As many Chief Risk Officers will tell you, an inquiring mind is among the most valuable traits in a risk professional—and these webinars are designed to cultivate just that.

If your team members aren’t yet individual members of RMA Australia, we encourage you to invite them to join and take part in these vital conversations.
