2024 April E-Newsletter: Membership Renewals

A Message from our Executive Director

Dear RMA Australia Members,

Welcome to the April edition of our newsletter, where we recap the webinars and events of the past month and look ahead.

March/April is always a busy time for the RMA Australia team, as it signifies the end of our membership year and the start of a new one. This year, we have continued our ZERO FEE individual membership model to allow as many of our risk colleagues as possible to join, engage with, and be part of our growing community. If you haven’t already, it’s important to join or renew your membership via our website to register for upcoming webinars and events.

In March, we successfully held our first face-to-face event for 2024. I thank KPMG for their expert moderation and delivery of this event.

Read all about the ‘Service Provider Resilience and Reliance,’ event below.

KPMG’s Third-Party Risk Management (TPRM) team hosted the event, ‘Service Provider Resilience and Reliance,’ on Thursday, 21 March, at its Barangaroo office. It was facilitated and moderated by KPMG’s Zeynep Turesin Soylu, Director, Governance, Risk & Compliance.

Panellists included Risk Consulting Partner and KPMG Australia’s National Leader for TPRM, Gavin Rosettenstein, and KPMG’s Regulatory & Compliance Partner-in-Charge, Matt Tottenham, who led an interactive session on ‘service provider management’ in light of the latest CPS 230 Operational Risk Management requirements.

The session provided:

  • An overview of key outcomes for CPS 230
  • APRA’s expectations from the Practice Guide (CPG 230)
  • A comprehensive breakdown of the Material Service Provider Journey and its challenges

Over 50 RMA Australia members attended the event and engaged with interactive questions throughout to prompt reflection on CPS 230 preparedness and MSP management. The event concluded with a Q&A followed by networking drinks.

This week we held the second webinar in our new ‘Risk Fundamentals’ series – Conduct Risk’. The webinar was hosted by NAB, who brought together a quality panel comprised of Heidi Gaussen (Head of Conduct, People & Culture Risk, NAB), Michael Gorman (Senior Manager, Strategic Surveillance & Data, Regulation and Supervision, Australian Securities and Investments Commission) and Simone Leijon (Head of Conduct Risk, ANZ). The panel addressed definitions of conduct risk and the relationship between conduct risk and culture.

Our members also heard directly from ASIC on regulatory expectations around conduct risk management and from our industry practitioners on how conduct risk is managed as a risk and how customer outcomes are measured.

This webinar had an outstanding 588 registrations. Thank you to Melanie Sykes (Partner, Digital & Tech Risk, Deloitte) for her expert moderation and to our members for their support and engagement. Melanie Sykes is also the new Chair of our Events Sub-Committee. I would like to welcome her to this role. Get to know Melanie below.

As always, we encourage you to stay engaged with RMA Australia by attending our upcoming networking webinars and events. I look forward to seeing you online or in person soon.
