2024 March E-Newsletter: Exploring Risk Fundamentals and Macro Trends

A Message from our Executive Director

Dear RMA Australia Members,

Welcome to the March edition of our newsletter, where we recap the webinars and events that have taken place over the past month and look ahead.

Firstly, I would like to take the opportunity to thank and farewell Tara Cahill (Chief Risk Officer, BUPA Asia Pacific) as she steps down from the RMA Australia Management Committee after nearly four years and welcome Julie Hunter (General Manager FIG & ESG Risk, CBA).

Last month, we started our inaugural “Risk Fundamentals” series, hosted by NGM Group. We were privileged to have RMA Australia Board member and NGM Group CRO Guy Harding, lead an engaging discussion on the critical disciplines within an entity’s risk function, starting with the pivotal role of the Chief Risk Officer. We extend our gratitude to Guy for his expertise and to Sarah Tait for her skilful moderation of the session.

Our second webinar, “Macro trends and volatility shaping risk management in 2024 and beyond,” hosted by Genpact, garnered tremendous interest with over 350 registrations! Esteemed panellists Rahoul Chowdry, John Lorimer, and Amy Hansen delivered a dynamic session, exploring the evolving landscape of risk management amidst macroeconomic shifts and volatility. Thanks to Genpact for their excellent facilitation of this event.

Looking ahead this month, we will host our annual International Women’s Day (IWD) event hosted by Westpac. This year’s theme, “IWD Digital: Inspire Inclusion,” promises thought-provoking discussions and networking opportunities. Whether you are joining us in person in Sydney or via webinar, we look forward to your participation in this significant event.

Our second event in March is an in person event in Sydney on “Service Provider Resilience and Reliance”.

Join KPMG for an interactive session on “service provider management” as the countdown is on for Prudential Standard CPS 230 Operational Risk Management to come into effect. Our speakers will share their experience to date, their approach to address some common challenges.

In addition to our member webinars and face-to-face events, we operate specialist forums for those institutional members who pay an additional fee. These are available to members who offer financial services (as opposed to those members who provide advisory services only). Learn more about our forums below.

As always, we encourage you to stay engaged with RMA Australia by attending our upcoming networking webinars and events. I look forward to seeing you online or in person soon.
