A new President for RMA - 2017 (​AGM​)

​The 2017 AGM resulted in the election of new President, Chris Williams, Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

Chris will certainly be busy during the next year as the RMA President. Chris has over 36 years banking experience at Commonwealth Bank and is currently the Chief Risk Officer for the Business & Private Bank which is the second largest division of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

Chris leads a team of over 200 risk staff nationally that provide Credit Risk Assessment, Operational Risk Control and Compliance Oversight for the Business in Private Bank which supports financing activities to Small and Medium sized enterprises, Regional & Agri banking customers, Private Bank customers as well as the CommSec business.

Prior to his current role, Chris held the position of General Manager Institutional Client Coverage, Risk Management, covering the risk decisioning of the Institutional Banking & Markets division, a role he had held for over 9 years.

Chris has worked throughout Australia and some two years in the United Kingdom and four years in the USA (New York).

Catherine Thrum our previous chair has led the RMA Board with outstanding leadership and dedication. During her tenure, RMA convened two quality CRO Events, awarded two of the RMA Macquarie University Prizes in Risk Management and launched the following: Women in Risk series, the Young Risk Professional series, developed and delivered an Ethics Masterclass, the CRO Women in Risk Round table, established an Interbank Financial Crimes Forum and the RMA Australia LinkedIn Group (300 members). Thanks Catherine it's been inspiring to be part of your dynamic team.

Life Membership - Andrew Harmer

Andrew Harmer has been an active member of the RMA Management Committee since 2007, almost the entirety of RMA Australia's history since its establishment. During the past six years, he has been our chapter's Vice President.

Andrew has chaired the events committee and convened three CRO Annual Conferences. In addition, he has convened and spoken at countless EY hosted monthly meetings in RMA's three locations.

Critically he has been an exceptional ambassador for RMA, seeking out numerous new members and liaising with member companies and CROs frequently. His immense knowledge of and commitment to our goals has been a key driver as an RMA board member.

RMA will miss Andrew's leadership and guidance when he stands down from the board, but we know that as a Life Member he will continue in his support of our mission to enhance the professionalism of the risk management community.

On behalf of the RMA Board we’d like to thank you for your significant contribution to RMA and honour you with Life Membership.
