RMA Macquarie University Prize in Risk Management Awarded

RMA is pleased to announce the inaugural winner of the RMA Australia Risk Management Prize (Sydney) - Henry Vu.  The prize is awarded each year to a Sydney student in the Macquarie Master of Applied Finance program with the highest grade in the subject Financial Risk Management (FRM).  The Macquarie Applied Finance Centre gratefully acknowledges the support of RMA in promoting the study of risk management through this generous academic prize.

According to Associate Professor Elizabeth Sheedy, Henry is a worthy recipient.  Coming from an IT background (Singapore Management University), Henry previously worked for four years at Bank of America Merrill Lynch.  He travelled to Sydney to complete his Masters studies in 2014 at which he excelled.  He achieved the highest grade in FRM of any student in 2014.  This is a considerable achievement given the cohort size over 100 and the strength of competition from local students.

FRM is a subject which, like risk management in the real-world, incorporates both technical and qualitative concepts.  To achieve a High Distinction as Henry did is relatively rare due to the challenging material.  Currently looking for work in either Singapore or Australia, Henry’s aim is to work as a professional risk manager and we have every confidence that he will be an asset to the profession.

In 2016 the university hopes to launch a new Graduate Diploma in Financial Risk Management, with a curriculum endorsed by RMA Australia, to help risk managers advance their careers to the next stage.  Look out for further information on this new initiative in the coming months.
