RMA Australia launches a new website

www.rmaaustralia.org has a new look and feel.  On 1 October 2014 we went live on a new website. This site is mobile phone compatible and features Twitter and LinkedIn facilities. It also has a member only section which allows RMA members to access documents and photo gallery material relating to our events and forums. If you have any comments on our new site please send them to secretariat@rmaaustralia.org

Events Just Past

The last few months have been very busy in the calendar of RMA Australia.

CRO Conference 16 September 2014

We had an outstanding CRO Conference which was attended by 60 CRO’s and senior risk professionals from 30 of our member companies. The attendees were fortunate to hear some quality addresses from the likes of the new Chair of APRA, Wayne Byres and the Deputy Chair of ASIC, Peter Kell. The perspective of leading world economic commentator Dr Woody Brock was also on the programme, as was a fascinating session on how two leading sell-side investment bankers see the role of the risk function and changes in the sector unfolding in coming months/years and what issues are hitting their radar. There was also an interesting session on two areas of innovation (payment systems and peer to peer lending) and a CRO panel which reflected on the day and commented on the future agenda for RMA Australia.

We will post the presentations on our Member Only section of www.rmaaustralia.org

FSI Panel Member Craig Dunn – 15 September 2014

Craig Dunn, formerly CEO of AMP Ltd, and now Panel Member on the David Murray-led Financial Systems Inquiry presented to a capacity audience in Sydney and Melbourne via simulcast. Craig highlighted the major challenges and broadly canvassed some of the options which the Panel would be considering.  He fielded a host of well-structured and probing questions and answered them as fully as he could (given the current state of the Inquiry). Special thanks to Craig for his contribution and also to NAB (Dallas McInerney and Margaret Limbrey) for hosting the event and linking up with their Melbourne office via video conference.

Chair of House of Reps Economics Committee Kelly O’Dwyer MP – 7 October 2014

ANZ hosted our October event in Melbourne on 7 October 2014 (with a video conference to Sydney) with Kelly O’Dwyer the Chair of the House Economics Committee as the speaker. Again our capacity for registrations for this event was tested with over 100 in attendance in Melbourne. Kelly O’Dwyer addressed the two new inquiries which come under her remit as Chair. Hitherto her Committee has had as its principal focus the regular meetings with RBA senior officials to discuss the state of the economy generally and financial economy in particular. However, the Committee has attracted considerable market and community interest with its current reference on investment in Australian domestic real estate by foreign residents, and the role of the Foreign Investment Review Board as the lead regulator. She also addressed the committee’s new charter to scrutinise the APRA Annual Report, including its activities as the prudential regulator of our ADIs. The session attracted strong interest from our credit risk, regulation and compliance risk, operational risk and enterprise risk specialists. Thanks to our ANZ supporters in Sydney and Melbourne for making this event run so efficiently.

November Event

KPMG will be hosting sessions in Melbourne and Sydney on 17 and 20 Nov 2014 respectively, further details can be found on our Events page.

December – Christmas Events

Come and hear how a CRO and/or senior risk manager found the travails of the year just past and also listen to his/her expectations for 2015. These presentations will be shorter than usual so that we can share in some additional networking and Christmas cheer. These sessions will be hosted in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane respectively by NAB, CBA and Suncorp.
